Episode 2 – Rachel Appel’s story: Exploring both the beauty and betrayal of Tulum

In this episode I have the honor to have Rachel Appel as a guest in the podcast. She is the creator and director of the documentary “The Dark Side of Tulum“, which sheds light on the environmental troubles popularity and growth bring to Tulum.

Rachel Naomi Appel is a journalist, artist, and truth-seeker working on global creative projects and initiatives, as evidence by her most recent work, “The Dark Side of Tulum” – an astonishing yet unsettling exploration of the beauty and betrayal of Tulum, Mexico – and what can be done to change it.

“In this manicured, modified world, it is my responsibility as an artist to provide you with mirrors of truth – gently urging that we must all have the courage to look”, she says.

Revealing hidden realities within our society, Rachel's work encourages self reflection while fostering a shared sense of humanity – no matter how divergent or diverse our concerns are. Featured in numerous publications including New York Magazine, Mind Body Green, Films For Action, and The Beam Magazine, she aims to provoke enlightenment and illuminate topics that are often misconstrued. Rachel holds a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies and a Master's Degree in International Journalism.
